GSM is one of the simplest specifications to check when comparing polyester lining fabric. It indicates the fabric's weight and can help manufacturers select a lining that suits the construction of the garment. A lining that is too light or too heavy may not provide the interior feel intended for a particular suit, blazer, sherwani or outerwear style.
For lighter garments, Double Ghoda lists Taffeta 190T at 52–65 GSM. This range is suited to blazers, safari suits and outerwear where minimum bulk and good drape are required. Satin polyester lining falls within the 67–80 GSM range, while Satin Dobby is available at 72–82 GSM. These options are listed for suits, blazers and formal jackets.
At the higher end, Jacquard polyester lining is specified at 80–85 GSM. Its patterned woven surface makes it an option for premium suits and sherwanis where the interior finish is an important part of the garment. This does not mean one GSM is universally better than another; the appropriate range depends on the garment and the desired interior construction.
